On November 1, the Feast of All Saints, we are reminded of our destiny in heaven. The following day reminds us of all the dead, among which we have many friends. We are all sinners, longing for unity and completeness in our lives. So we walk as a form of prayer, asking God to heal and complete our lives, so that we may join all those we love for all eternity.
We will be walking in a large group, mostly on secondary gravel roads or sidewalks. The participation fee of $25 includes our safety vehicles, sag wagon, port-a-potty, rest stops, songs, prayers, food, and a ride back to Salem. People from 12 to 80 years old successfully completed our last two events, both a 21 mile walk to Mt. Angel and a 25 mile walk to Amity, and we expect all ages to come this time too. It is a multicultural group, vibrant and fun. Come check it out!
A full packing list will be provided to registered participants. But just to give you an idea, you're going to want a safety jacket for visibility, comfortable walking shoes, a small backpack with adequate clothing for the unpredictable Oregon climate (think rain), and a water bottle.
"Prayer Pilgrims" will accompany the walking pilgrims spiritually by chanting the entire Book of Psalms from the Bible as an overnight prayer vigil. The "Prayer Pilgrims" will begin their evening at St. Joseph's with the "Walking Pilgrims" for registration and to receive a special blessing. Once the "Walking Pilgrims" depart, the "Prayer Pilgrims" will shuttle up to Mary's Parish in Mt. Angel in order to complete the overnight prayer vigil. The cost of $10 will cover snacks throughout the night as well as breakfast and Mass with the pilgrims in Mt. Angel the following morning.
If you would like to become a "Prayer Pilgrim", please register at the link at the top of the page.
Yes, we are always in need of volunteers! Please send us an e-mail and we can find a way for you to help. We are always in need of volunteers to drive pilgrims from Mt. Angel back to St. Joseph's on Saturday morning. Drivers are welcome to join the pilgrims for Mass @ 8AM at the Mt. Angel Abbey.
